San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team opened up a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with a 10-4 win over Schreiner (TX) University on Friday night.
Trinity opened the game with four runs on four hits in the first two innings to take control of the game early.
The Tigers added three more runs in the fifth, then followed Schreiner's first run with another three-run inning to take a 10-1 lead after six complete.
Schreiner added another score in the eighth, then two more in the ninth, but Trinity's lead was too much in the end.
The two teams combined for eight total errors in the game, leading to a total of six unearned runs.
Trinity finished with 11 hits offensively, holding Schreiner to just five singles.
Tiger pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in the game, but did allow nine total walks.
Trinity moves to 5-5 in SCAC play with the win, as well as improving to a 16-12 overall record this season. Schreiner falls to 10-20 overall and 2-8 in conference.
Dylan McGee (3-2) earned the win for the Tigers, allowing one hit and one unearned run over five innings, and striking out nine batters.
Mark Tindall struck out four more Schreiner hitters in two shutout innings of work, giving up just two hits.
Jake Martin finished the game with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Both of Martin's hits were doubles, and he now leads the Tigers with nine this season.
Trinity and Schreiner continue the series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
