Tigers Sweep SCAC Doubleheader From Southwestern on Saturday

San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team swept both games of a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, winning 4-0 and 6-1.

The Tigers improved to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference with the wins.  The shutout in the opener was the team's first of the season.

Ryan Lucero (3-0) gave up four hits in a complete-game shutout to start the day off for Trinity, striking out eight and walking just one.

Southwestern and Trinity were both scoreless through the first four innings, but the Tigers finally broke through with four runs on four hits in the fifth inning.  Kevin Francke drove home the last two runs with a single up the middle.

Six different Trinity players had hits in the game, but the Tigers were held to just two hits over the first four innings of play.

Game two started off with a scoreless first inning, but the Tigers plated three runs in the second to take the early lead.  Again it was Francke with a pair of RBI to highlight the inning.  The Pirates avoided another shutout with a run in the sixth to stay in the game, but Trinity scored three more in the seventh to put the game away.

Carter Lauck (3-0) allowed one run on four hits through 6.2 innings to earn the win, striking out four batters.  Michael Bentz and Kyle Bogese finished off the final 2.1 innings without allowing a hit to 10 batters faced.

Christian Muscarello and Nick Griffith both went 3-4 in the second game to lead the Tiger offense.  Francke had two more hits to add to his day's total.

Trinity and Southwestern finish off the weekend series with a single game tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
