Trinity's Comeback Win in 2008 SCAC Championship Chosen as SCAC Top Moment
San Antonio - The Trinity Tiger baseball team's comeback win over Millsaps in the 2008 SCAC Championship game was selected as the top moment in SCAC baseball history.
In the bottom of the ninth inning of the 2008 SCAC Championship game at Danville, Ky., the Tigers found themselves down to their final out, and trailing by three runs to the Millsaps Majors. But the Tigers scored four runs to capture the SCAC title with an improbable 6-5 win.
Trinity needed a strong rally, as the Tigers had lost 10-5 in the day's opening game to Millsaps. Two losses would have meant Trinity would have returned to San Antonio without any hardware.
The clincher came when Trinity's Stosh Hoover drove in two runs
with a base hit on an 0-2 count. Hoover's ball fired into the
right-center field gap, scoring Kevin Jackson and Dylan Early.
Trinity won its fourth SCAC title under the leadership of Coach Tim Scannell, and moved on to the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament at Abilene, Texas. Fifth-seeded Trinity started the regional event with an 8-1 victory over George Fox University, and then beat California State-East Bay 8-3. Chapman University edged the Tigers 10-9, but Trinity bounced back to defeat East Bay 9-5. Just two wins from qualifying for the Division III World Series, Trinity’s comeback was thwarted in the regional final by Chapman, which emerged as a 4-3 winner.
Most recently, the Tigers captured back-to-back SCAC Championships in 2010 and 2011, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament both years.
