Trinity's Walden Named to SCAC Baseball All-Sportsmanship
San Antonio – Trinity University Tigers senior designated hitter Chris Walden of Phoenix (Brophy College Preparatory) has been named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball All-Sportsmanship Team.
Each SCAC head coach was asked to elect one player who displayed
good sportsmanship throughout the season.
Walden is batting .429 (39-91), has smacked 11 doubles, four home
runs, and 33 RBI, while scoring 23 runs for the Tigers.
The Tigers (32-7) won their second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in three years, and the fifth under 12th-year head coach Tim Scannell. Trinity, which has won six SCAC Baseball Championships overall, also received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
The six-team, double-elimination SCAC Championship Tournament was held last month at Millington, Tenn. Trinity went 4-0 at the SCAC Tournament, culminating with a 3-1 win over DePauw.
For his efforts, coach Scannell was named SCAC Baseball Coach of the Year, for the fifth time.
Selections for the 55-team NCAA Division III Tournament will be made May 16, with the regionals to be held May 19-23. The NCAA Championship Tournament is slated for May 28-June 1 at Appleton, Wis.
