Trinity Baseball's Jones Earns All-America Honors
San Antonio – Trinity University Tigers senior first baseman Evan Jones has been named to the d3baseball.com All-America Second Team.
Earlier this month, Jones, from Hillsborough, Calif. (Junipero Serra), was elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He also was named to the All-SCAC Team for the third time.
Jones batted .480 (71-148), and cracked 67 RBI. He is Trinity’s all-time leader in RBI, with 189 during his career. Jones smacked 13 home runs, 14 doubles, two triples, an drew 37 walks during the campaign. He produced a slugging percentage of .865, and an on-base percentage of .579. An excellent defensive player, Jones recorded a fielding percentage of .979.
The Tigers (32-9 overall) won their fifth SCAC Championship under 12th-year head coach Tim Scannell, who received conference Coach of the Year honor for the fifth time. Trinity qualified for its fifth NCAA Division III postseason tournament, and played in the McMinnville (Ore.) Regional. Chapman edged Trinity 4-3 in the opening game, and Mississippi College won 5-4 in an 11-inning contest.
