Tiger Baseball Players Competing in Summer Leagues
San Antonio - After a terrific 2010 season, the several key members of the Trinity Tigers will face elite competition this summer in various NCAA affiliated summer leagues.
Juniors Ben Klimesh and Nick Pappas reported to their teams in the Coastal Plain League, where they played their first games on May 26th. Klimesh’s first start of the season for the Morehead City Marlins came against Pappas’ team, the Asheboro Copperheads. Klimesh went six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out nine batters.
Hard-throwing sophomore, Josh Fink is playing for the Lowell All-Americans of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. His first game is on the fourth of June.
Right handed sophomore pitcher Tanner Barron will join senior shortstop Kevin Jackson to take on the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Both will play for the Albany Dutchmen this summer.
Two of Trinity’s top arms last year, senior Michael Panozzo and sophomore Ryan Lucero begin their summer season on June 3rd for the DeLand Suns of the Florida Summer Collegiate League.
Seniors Dominick Robusto and Dylan Early are teaming up on the Trombly Thunder of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League. Sophomore Kevin Francke will join Robusto and Early in the SCCBL, but will play with the defending champion Orange County Pioneers. Their summer season begins on June 26th.
Summer league experience is not only a great experience for these players, but it will allow them to develop as players and get more game experience under their belts. In some cases, playing in summer leagues against stiff competition has gotten Trinity players an exposure to pro scouts leading to successful careers in the minor leagues. In every case, summer league players have returned stronger, more athletic, and with sharper skills.
