Four Tiger Baseball Players Named to SCAC All-Tournament Team

San Antonio - Four Trinity University Tigers have been selected for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball All-Tournament Team.

Evan Jones, Dominick Robusto, Nick Pappas, and Ben Klimesh were elected following last week’s tournament at Millington, Tenn. The Tigers (32-7), won their second SCAC title in three years, and the fifth under 12th-year head coach Tim Scannell. Trinity, which has won six SCAC Baseball Championships overall, also received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Jones, a senior first baseman from Hillsborough, Calif. (Junipero Serra), batted .600 (9-15) in the Tigers’ four victories at USA Stadium. The SCAC Offensive player of the Year produced three doubles, one home run, six RBI, and seven runs. Jones had a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .632 on-base percentage, and a 1.630 one-base plus slugging mark. He earlier was named to the All-SCAC Baseball Team.

Robusto, a junior third baseman from Laguna Beach, Calif. (Laguna Beach), hit. 500 (8-16), and smacked two doubles, three triples, seven RBI, along with scoring four runs. He had a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .529 on-base percentage, and was 1.529 in the on-base plus slugging category.

Pappas. a sophomore outfielder from Los Angeles (Loyola), went .444 (8-18) at the tournament. He swatted two doubles, one home run, eight RBI, and scored four runs. Pappas had a .722 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage, and was 1.222 in the on-base plus slugging area. He was previously named to the All-SCAC Baseball Team.

Klimesh, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Wilmette, Ill. (New Trier), went 1-0 at the SCAC Tournament, the pitcher of record in Trinity’s 8-0 semifinal win over DePauw. In 10 innings of work, Klimesh (7-0 during the season), allowed no earned runs, seven hits, two walks, and struck out 11 batters. Klimesh also earned the save in Trinity’s 3-1 championship game victory over DePauw.

The Tigers beat Oglethorpe 11-7, and Austin College 18-12, prior to their two wins over DePauw.

For his efforts, coach Scannell was named SCAC Baseball Coach of the Year, for the fifth time.

Selections for the 55-team NCAA Division III Tournament will be made May 16, with the regionals held May 19-23. The NCAA Championship Tournament is slated for May 28-June 1 at Appleton, Wis.
