Evan Jones and Ben Klimesh Earn SCAC Honors

San Antonio - Trinity baseball players Evan Jones and Ben Klimesh were each awarded honors from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference this week.

Jones, a senior first baseman, was named the SCAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to four wins over the past week - as well as another win Tuesday night in the series opener against Brandeis University.

Last week, Jones was 10-13 at the plate, posting an average of .769 for the four games that included a three-game SCAC sweep of Austin College.  Jones, who had an on-base percentage of .842 for the week, also added four runs and seven RBI in the four games, hitting two doubles and a pair of home runs.  He was walked a total of six times - including being intentionally walked three times against Austin College.

Klimesh earned the win that started off the week for the Tigers, tossing a six-hit shutout against Mary Hardin-Baylor last Tuesday.  Last night, he earned his second win in as many starts, giving up four runs on six hits through six innings.  Against UMHB, Klimesh struck out nine batters and didn't allow a hit over the final three innings.  Against Brandeis, he added seven more strikeouts to his season total.

Currently, Jones is leading Trinity with a batting average of .636 and an on-base percentage above .700.  Klimesh, who is one of three Tiger pitchers with a 2-0 record, is currently second on the team with a 3.63 ERA, and has fanned a team-best 18 batters.

Trinity has won six consecutive games after last night's win, and will finish its series with Brandeis this weekend.  The teams play a game on Friday night, followed by the Saturday afternoon series finale.
