Matt Saenz is the Athletic Department’s equipment manager, a post he has held since 1992.

Matt, who has 26 years experience in the field, is in charge of equipment and uniforms, and their maintenance, for all of Trinity’s 18 intercollegiate sports. He is a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association.

He came to Trinity from San Antonio’s Texas Military Institute – now TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas – where he worked as the equipment manager for four years. Matt was also a student manager at St. Gerard Catholic High School.

Matt was honored by his Trinity colleagues in 2003, as the recipient of the Helen Heare McKinley Classified Employee Excellence Award. The McKinley Award recognizes a deserving member of the classified staff.

Respected by the athletics equipment profession, Matt served on the Schutt Sports Advisory Board for high schools and small colleges.

Matt has also worked as the assistant equipment manager for the San Antonio Gunslingers (United States Football League) and San Antonio Riders (World League of American Football). On numerous occasions, Matt has assisted Alamo Bowl teams, the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and the East-West Shrine Football Game.

He has experience with the a number of high school all-star games, for the San Antonio Olmos Kiwanis Club, the Texas High School Coaches Association, and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Matt and his wife, Shelley, have two sons, Britton (24, a member of the U.S. Army), and Blaine (17), and a daughter, Calee (4).
