Rick Mahler
2009 Hall of Fame Class
Rick Mahler, who died in 2005, was a member of Trinity's 1973 NCAA playoff team. He had a 13-year career as a Major League pitcher, from 1979-1991. Mr. Mahler pitched for the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds (1990 World Series team) and Montreal Expos. He amassed 96 Major League victories. Mr. Mahler was the Major League leader in starts, with Atlanta, in 1985 and 1986. He was the starting pitcher 39 times in each of those seasons, and made five opening-day starts. Mr. Mahler is represented by his son, Rick, a former baseball standout at the University of the Incarnate Word. He currently teaches special education at Lytle Elementary near San Antonio, and coaches baseball at Lytle High School.
