Marvin Upshaw

2001 Hall of Fame Class

Football - B.S., Physical Education, 1970

A Little All-American and All-Texas defensive end for the Tigers in 1966 and 1967.  Earned All-Upshaw in his playing days Southland Conference honors for three years in football, and also received All-Southland honors in baseball, as a catcher.  Nicknamed the "Maroon Mauler," Upshaw was the top draft pick of the National Football League's Cleveland Browns in 1968, who he played for in 1968 and 1969; then was a standout for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1970 to 1975 - also played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1976.

Now is part owner of two businesses in Oakland, Calif.
